NFL Star Player comes out of the closet…in new book, Football Games!

Football Games tells the story of a gay and closeted professional football player who is fighting against his own internal demons, and the pressure he faces on the home front from his boyfriend of 4 years.  This player must decide, if he will remain a successful and closeted football player, or blaze the trail of being the nation’s first openly gay NFL player.

As he struggles to keep his personal life private, his partner has other desires.  This is the tale of a hidden life style, jealousy, rage and whether or not a young superstar can overcome the challenges of being gay, black and living in the closet.

Recently, professional athletes in other sports have announced that they are openly gay or lesbian.  Professional football has been stigmatized as the most homophobic sport.  It appears to be difficult for some players and fans to seriously support a gay player, assuming he is not masculine or athletic enough.  In Football Games, can our hero change the stereotype?

Football Games is currently available on Kindle.  Paperback will be released soon.

The NBA Shower Scene

Here it is. The inevitable shower scene. A naked seven-footer steps onto the slick wet tile floor. He locates an empty shower head under which he can stand. He can’t wait for what is coming next. He is surrounded by many of his teammates, all who are also naked. He eyes his target and reaches for it. He turns the hot water on full blast to soothe his aching muscles after another aggressive game on the pine floor. He ignores every guy around him, washes off, gets out and goes home. Like every other man in the room!

Fade to Black!

End of Story!

The assumption that every gay man is sex-crazed and out-of-control ogler is offensive and ludicrous. Bryan Fischer (and others like him) do not think so. Huffington Post posted a video segment from his show (Thanks HuffPost), where Fischer shared what goes on in his imagination. (And what the hell does the phrase “out and active homosexual” mean? Bryan, you speak with such vitriol.) In Fischer's mind, every NBA player (and their wives) are on pins and needles because next season Jason Collins is going to be lurking around every corner, waiting for a chance to steal a peek in the locker room shower.

Can you spell the word, stupid? How about ignorant?

The insecurity and fragility of the male ego can be embarrassing at times. (Especially because I am male!) Listen up hetero-sports player-bros! Every gay man is not after you! Many of the women you bed do not want you either! They swing on your jocks in hopes of gathering some of the crumbs from your millionaire contracts. They don't want you any more than Jason (or any other gay PLAYER does).  The bottom line is, Jason Collins (and the other gay men who are currently playing professional sports – simple statistics tells us they are out there!) has already seen you in the shower and they were not impressed or interested! Not because you are an unattractive sort, but because they are professionals!  And you are HIS BROTHER! Just like his twin brother! He and others do not and will not see you any other way. Get over yourselves! He is the exact SAME GUY he was before you became aware of his sexuality. His sexuality didn’t affect you then and it is not going to affect you now.

Bryan Fischer! Stop yelling fire in a crowded theatre! You are a trying to incite a riot! Most people are glad Jason is liberated and came out. They just want him to be able to play the game of basketball. So you and your friends, take your torches (imagine witchhunt), your signs (idiots at Westboro pseudo-‘Church’), your hoods (reminds me of the KKK) and your ridiculous hate speech and disappear into the world of insignificance where you and your message belongs.
